I've Been Thinking......(that could be a dangerous thing!)

I have been thinking about starting another blog that is totally different from this one.
I will definitely keep this one, though.
It has been so much fun to meet all you wonderful sewists out there.
If I start a new blog it would be about "grammar". Yes, you read it correctly, "grammar". I am very distressed at times when I read facebook comments, blogs, and even the newspaper to see all kind of mistakes. Now, I'm not saying that my writing is always perfect, but I did teach language arts for many years. I'm just wondering if there would be an audience out there for such a blog. I would try to tackle common mistakes that I see, two or three times a week.
I also have an idea for a blog to help parents ensure that their children are successful students. When I taught, I always started the year with a unit on study skills. It really seemed to help at least a few of my 6th graders. I would have given anything to have been taught some of these skills when I was a student and when I was raising my daughters. I'm actually thinking that these two subjects could be combined into one blog. What could I name it?
How does a blog with sponsors work?
Send me some feedback, please!
I've been thinking about writing a book titled, Happiness is the Definition of Success.

I am usually horrified by some of the grammar I see in our local newspaper. I know that some rules have changed a little since I was learning grammar (which I actually never was taught in school, if you can believe-- long story). I'm don't have perfect grammar by any means, especially when speaking, but I have this strange old-fashioined expectation that a journalistic endeavor might be held to some higher standards. Apparently I am very wrong about that.

I can't think of a good title for you, though. "Grammarama" LOL Maybe not.

"I'm don't have perfect grammar"?? Seriously? I'm don't. Thanks what you get when you're typing and doing three other things at the same time. I still think it's no excuse for the newspaper, though.

Holy Guacamole, batman!! Weird typos in that one too! I have to go now. LOL

I try to have proper grammar as well; so I know what you mean. I'm sure I could learn some things to teach my children at such a blog. If I think of a name, I'll let you know.

I try to use proper grammar but must admit I sometimes slip! And I was an English Language and Lit minor in college. I am often shocked at some of the incorrect spelling, etc. that I see out there.

I'd love to see a blog like that, Julia. I could use a refresher!

I've always wanted to put at the top of my blog "I may not know how to write well but I do know sewing" LOL. I know I write bad from what my kids are being taught in school. It's mostly from not having enough time or like beangirl doing 101 things at once and not doing any of them well because you're doing 101 things. Like right now, eating lunch, reading blogs, watching the news on tv and talking on the phone.
Never a dull moment!
I think it's a great idea though...

oh oh, I am wincing because I suspect I could be one of the blogs you are referring to. I would definitely be interested in a blog on grammar. In my opinion learning is always a positive. Great idea!

I think it is a great idea!! When I think of the many times my mother has cringed at my own grammar (which I don't think is all that poor, but still!), I'm convinced that these things have fallen by the wayside in education. I wonder what the fopcus has become?

Excellent idea, Julia. I try to correct my writing, some slips past my radar, though. That is my husband's pet peeve, poor grammar, especially in writing. He said he can forgive someone's speech in normal conversation (he's a salesperson and he tends to fall into the other person's rhythm and manner of speaking to get into the conversation) but in writing, you can proofread and correct it. IM's and Facebook have deteriorated writing skills tremendously. If you want to do it, go for it. Erin at A Dress A Day is a lexicographer (I think that's the word), so you should find her comments interesting.

I think this is a wonderful idea Julia.
I am rather picky about grammar myself, but I do find that in my blogging, I often do things a little differently than when I am writing other things.
Like sometimes I will use upper case letters through an entire word to show emphasis or dynamic. However, I go through-the-roof, over-the-top, out-of-my-mind NUTS when I read some of the things that some people write in their Facebook status'. Twitter is even worse. And shall we talking about texting?

When editing India's papers for school, I am shocked at the way the high school writing teachers grade. When I spoke to one of the teachers, she told me that writing and grammar are taught differently than when I went to school. Apparently our method is now "dated". Hm....

So, in answer to your question, YES!
I would love to read a blog of this type. Thank you.
