I have decided to challenge myself to learn at least one new sewing/knitting/crocheting skill a month. I've already begun this, anyway, with the sweaters I've been making.
I have a very exciting new skill to learn when I make Miss J's Easter dress this year. I am very excited about using the Boutis Provenchal (I think I spelled this correctly) technique that is in the latest issue of Sew Beautiful. I'll post about the process as I go along. I do have lots of stuff to finish first, though.
I am going to do some picture smocking, which I have done before, but not much, and not very well.
I am going to do some new embroidery techniques, too.
I am going to learn to do a cable stitch in knitting.
I am going to learn..............?????????????? Give me some ideas.
What are you challenging yourself to do these days?

I'll be doing good to learn how to knit a hat ;-D That's my goal anyway.
Great idea!!!! I can't wait to see what you learn.
I have cable stitch on my radar too. One of the gals at work was given a beautiful cable knit scarf, but wants one in a different color so she was sure I could make one for her. Found a pattern that is similar, but now it's time for skill building!
You will love the boutis technique. I have a baby outfit started in a boutis class that I need to finish. My goal is to complete many unfinished projects, and maybe I will learn something new along the way!
I love learning new things! I'm looking forward to seeing what new things you get into. I'm sure it's going to be fun!
Good for you to set a monthly goal! Looking forward to seeing some of those new techniques, especially the boutis one. It looks really difficult.
I'm trying to be more precise with fit, making muslins and only making garments that fit into a design schema. I also really want to master the welt buttonhole and welt pockets this year.
I'm challenging myself to keep working on the dollhouse and to get back to crocheting my throw.

Have a great week hugs Pat.
You create beautiful things and I like the idea that you want to learn and stretch yourself in new areas. I have tried to do that a little lately too. Thanks for the inspiration.
I can't wait to see what you learn Julia! I just bought the most amazing book on making 100 different handmade books, so I've been thinking about trying some of them out. I've also been trying to finish The Candy House dollhouse before the end of this year :)
