Vanilla Ripple

Our 19 1/2 year old cat, Vanilla Ripple, slipped away from us in her sleep today.  We are very sad, but we are thankful that she went the way she did, so peacefully.  My husband and I took turns holding her till about 2 am this morning.  We finally fixed her a special bed beside ours and let her sleep there.  We didn't think she would make it through the night, but she was a tough old lady!!!!!
She slipped into a coma about midday.  My husband and I took turns being with her and checking on her every few minutes.  I was with her when she took her last breath.  I wrapped her in a pretty cloth, put a note and a flower in a box with her, and then we buried her in our front flower garden.  We marked the spot with some river rocks.
She is at peace.  Her health had been failing for a while, now.  She had stopped eating.
Just in the past few days she wasn't able to jump up on the kitchen counter and some of the furniture.  It is a real blessing that she went as easily as she did.  She's been a good cat, even if somewhat spoiled.  She was a house cat and the epitome of a "Scaredy Cat"!  She was very shy, and would hide whenever we had company.  She did become bolder in her last year or so, though.  I guess it was just too much trouble for her to go find a place to hide.
We'll miss her.

So sorry about your cat. That's a long time to have a cat. Our pom is almost 16, and we are hoping she just slips away so we don't have to have her put down.

I'm so sorry Julia. I hate when this happens. When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? Blessings.

It's so hard to lose a beloved pet like that. It sounds like you were excellent kitty parents, and provided her a good and loving home for many years.
My good friend Ms. S says that if there is re-incarnation, she wants to be a pampered house pet.
She's not hurting and is happy - you did well. Cry all you need to.

I'm sorry to hear about Vanilla Ripple, Julia. And I'm glad she went peacefully and was able to be with you instead of having to take her to a vet.

I'm so sorry about your kitty Julia!! What a pretty one she was!
We had our dear Angel and Abby die within a year of each other last Spring. They both died in their sleep with my husband, myself and two kids by their side.
It's sad, but I'm sure Vanilla is peaceful now.

So sorry Julia....she was a beautiful cat and a beautiful spirit in your life, too. She looks so much like our little Peanut that we lost after 17 years last year. My favorite memory of him was watching him spring from the floor to the top of the kitchen wall cabinets when the neighbors unruly lab charged through our front door screen. There are two 5" long scratches on that cabinet door where Pea's rear foot landed to assist his assent. I used to look at these and frown, now I smile....Hugs

Pets become like children to us after our children leave the nest. They are so caring and seem to know when you are sad and glad.
I had to put my Miss Kitty after 20 years to sleep and hated doing it to this day, but she was ready to meet Petie our Boston Terrier who passed away at 16 years. Hugs to you Julia!
